Canisius College has received a verbal commitment from guard Gaby Belardo, who will transfer to the school from South Florida, sources have said.

Belardo visited Canisius over the weekend and gave coach Tom Parrotta a verbal commitment Sunday evening during a conference call, sources said.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Belardo played his freshman season at South Florida and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2009-10 season.

A native of San Juan, Puerto, Belardo spent his senior season at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., one of the top prep schools in the country. He attended Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla. for two seasons, helping Montverde go undefeated during the 2006-07 season. He choose South Florida over Hofstra, Duquesne, Virginia Commonwealth, Central Florida, and SMU.
